Abstract

In this research, iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles were doped with 5 % mol of metallic materials (Ag, Co, Cu) and non-metallic materials (S, N), and they were prepared by a simple impregnation method. The morphological features and elemental composition of the Fe2O3 nanoparticles were introduced. Moreover, nanoparticles of the photocatalytic activities of Fe2O3 with Ag, Co, Cu, S and N nanocomposites were examined by methyl blue solution as a model of pollutant. This study showed that Fe2O3/Ag, Co, Cu, S, and N nanoparticles possess good degradation of MB solution, reaching 80%, 51%, 48%, 45%, 68%, and 33% after 240 minutes of UV light. As can be seen, Ag is the better photocatalyst since adding silver as a dopant strongly reduces the recombination onto the photocatalyst surface, increasing the lifetime of electrons and holes and thus releasing more hydroxyl radicals.
